I feel very blessed

A story of having twins and hanging in there...

I was pregnant with boy/girl twins. I didn't find out I was having twins until I was almost 18 weeks along when we went to find out the gender. There was no suspicion of twins because the doctor only heard one heartbeat and I was measuring on time. We were in complete shock and I think it took a while for it to really set in.

My pregnancy in the beginning wasn't that hard. My morning sickness was very minimal and only lasted till my second trimester, that’s when the extreme fatigue set in! I don't think I had ever been so tired in my life and I was just so hungry all the time! No matter how much I ate, I was never full for longer than a half hour. I was gaining the proper weight and measuring on time until I hit 24 weeks and then I started growing bigger and that’s when the weight really started to pack on.

Everything was going good with the babies. They were growing on time and I was getting monthly ultrasounds to check everything. I was informed and prepared myself for the possibility of preterm labor that I hoped never happened.

By the time I was about 33 weeks, everything started to get painful. It was getting harder to walk, move around, back pain, etc. My doctor was happy every week that I came in because I had made it another week. By 36 weeks, I couldn't walk very good at all. I couldn't roll over in bed without being in extreme pain. I had to have help lifting my legs over the bathtub so I could shower because it hurt to lift my legs up more than a few inches. I had to have help putting my pants on everyday because I couldn't bend over. I felt completely helpless over myself. I cried everyday because I was so miserable but had to think that my babies were healthy and it was good for them.

I kept asking my doctor to induce me but he kept saying NO and it made me an emotional wreck. I didn't know how much longer I could go on in pain like that. By the time I was 38 weeks, my dr said he could induce me because the ultrasound showed the babies were at a good weight and he felt they would be ok so we set a date and they were born vaginally at 38 & 1/2 weeks with my son weighing 6lbs 9oz and 18 1/2in long and my daughter weighing 5lbs 15oz and 18in long. Both were very healthy and were able to come home with me. I am glad my dr made me wait as long as he did. I felt they came at the perfect time and I was so lucky I made it as far as I did. They are now 6 months old and my son is 17lbs and 26in and my daughter is 15lbs and 24in. They are happy, healthy babies and I couldn't ask for anything more :)

Me too!

I too am pregnant with boy/girl twins. I totally can relate to how you felt and the progress of you pregnancy. The other part that I am thinking may not be the same is that I'm 50. I'm a bit worried as I get further along that it is getting so much harder. I'm at 26 weeks now. I think we are going to schedule a c-section, but will find out this week. A question for you - did you continue to work up to the delivery date? I'm really hoping I can, but I'm starting to have doubts!
