Pelvic Discomfort

by Michelle
(Nashville, tn)

Hello all! I am currently 16 weeks pregnant with twins (fraternal). It is my first pregnancy, and even though I thought I had an idea of what to expect, all of that quickly went down the drain when I found that I had TWO little babies inside of me! Moreover, I am the first in my family to ever have twins!

So, long story short… I have been having frequent pelvic cramps/pain. The best to explain it is... I feel like they have little chisels and hammers down there going to town on my pelvic bones. I mean sometimes it will stop me in my tracks. Is this normal? All the help and advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Solutions for Pelvic pain
by: Ally

Hi. I've also been struggling with pelvic pain (26 weeks along with fraternal twins).
I'm fortunate enough to be consulting with a Pelvic Physiotherapist here in Cape Town, South Africa. Check out her site for info and help: (http://pelvicfunction.co.za/p_aches.htm). A pelvic physio can actually help release the muscle imbalance and pain. But if you can't find one in your area, here are some tips:
The important thing is to keep your muscles strong and improve joint stability this way.
Also - if something you do hurts - don't do it! (ie turning quickly, standing whiling leaning into one leg, bending etc). Make small careful movements, and keep those knees together as much as possible during the day. Also try not to sit/stand/walk for too long at one time - and REST!
Hope you feel better soon!

Went through the samething.
by: Elida

Hi..

I have identical twin boys who will be turning 8mths soon, and I have to say, that although it is a blessing, that pregnancy was not easy. I went through a lot of back pain, and especially around my hips. Any little movement i made hurt. Getting up from bed was one of the worse times. This went on basically through out the whole pregnancy. The only thing that worked a little was always keeping a pillow between my legs, but other then that, there was nothing else. I know this doesn't make it any better :-). God bless u n urs, and hopefully it won't last all the way.

Thanks!

Holly, Thanks so much for your reply! It feels great to know that I am not alone :D I am the first to have twins in my family so everyone seems to be kind of at a loss when it comes to understanding some of the things I seems to be going through! I am not quite sure what panadol is, and like you, I really try to not take any medicine unless it is absolutely necessary! However, I will research it and see if it might be a good fit for my those times that call for desperate measures :D

Similar feeling
by: Holly

Heya, I had the feeling of like my bones were grinding. I struggled to get up off the floor and sometimes the couch. I took panadol for when it got bad but didn’t want to be completely dependent on it. I tried to rest as much as possible :)

Oh I’m 17 weeks today with twins so not too far ahead of you :)
