Pre-term Birth with Twins

by Michelle

Hi! I am currently almost 22 weeks pregnant, and I am most worried about my twins being born too early...

Are there any stats on this?? What should we reasonably expect?

Mother of twins

Hi Michelle,
I remember feeling exactly how you do now. I was expecting my twins to be small or low birth weight not because of anything my doctor had said or found but because my mind was wrapped around the idea.
I have an older child who was born at 37weeks and low birth weight so I was preparing my self for the worst.
However, to my surprise my twin girls made it to 40 weeks and literally forced out. They weighed 6 pounds each and were healthy and happy.
So stay positive and calm everything will turn out great.
Enjoy the quite time while you still can : )
May the lord bless you and the babies.

Preterm Twins

Hi Michelle,

The average gestation for a twin pregnancy is between 35 and 38 weeks, though there are many women who carry right up to 40 weeks with their twins.

The best thing you can do is relax and have the healthiest pregnancy you can.

Also knowing the early signs of preterm labor can really help, see here for more info:
Signs of Preterm Labor.

If you notice any of these signs call your Healthcare Professional ASAP.

Best Regards
